Project 1 | Exercises
To color the portrait, I had to make it black and white, then color it using
the brush tool after picking the right color for the skin, hair and eyes.
After coloring, I applied some blending modes and played the opacity to make
it look as real as possible.
Week 6 Project briefing and demo
LECTURE 1
Week 1:
In this week we had the chance to meet and introduce ourselves to
our module lecturers Mr Fauzi and Mr Martin. They covered everything we
need in order to insure a good workflow, their explanation was clear. Also
the lecturers provided links and videos for further research.
Despite the current situation and the e-learning system I was able to
understand and practice the exercise given by the lecturers.

It looks alive.

Bezier game:
The lecturer introduced us to the Bezier game which I found pretty
challenging at the beginning, but after a while I got familiar with
all the keyboard shortcuts and the pen tool.
It was fun and really helpful, thanks to the game now I can use
the pen tool correctly.
Here is a screenshot when I reached the last level of this game.

Exercise:
Hearst mansion Photoshop
In this exercise we must make Shazam look like he is standing inside
the mansion using Photoshop. That was my first time using the
software, The lecturer has uploaded a very useful video on you
tube explaining the task in detail, so I had no issues completing
the exercise.

Feedback
After Mr Martin saw my work immediately he noticed
that the character's color ( Shazam) is not matching the background (the
mansion ). So his advice was to match the colors. Besides that everything
is correct.
After this feedback I went back and corrected my work by matching the
color of shazam with the background.

Week 2
Exercises 2
In this exercise we were asked to mask Shazam's body using only the
pen-tool, in the previous exercise we used the quick selection tool to
mask the figure, it was fairly easy masking with the pen-tool and
preciced.

Fig 2.1 masking with pen tool
In this exercise the goal is to put the ghost inside the house, we were
given three pictures to do this exercise.
first, I selected and masked the house using the lasso tool and the quick
selection tool, then I added the masked house to the main background, I
matched the color of the house with the background.
After that, i added the masked ghost picture to the house and used the
gradient tool to make it glow.
I did this work after watching the tutorial video that Mr. Martin has posted
on you tube. Everything was clear and easy to do thanks to the detailed
demo.
Below is my work.
Fig 3.1 ghost house
Fig 3.2 cowboy
After the cowboy exercise submission Mr. Martin did live demo in order to do the images below, in this tutorials we learned how to edit pictures using the blending modes in Photoshop, also we learned how to work with layer masks.
Fig 3.3

this image a result of blending two pictures, one contains the birds, the other contains the scenery you see.
Fig 3.4
Coffee girl
in this image I added the smoke effect on the coffee cup.
the demo was pretty straight forward and clear, also easy to execute.
Week 4
Exercise 4
Recoloring exercise and tutorial
In this exercise, we had to work on a black and white portrait and color
it using brush tool in Photoshop, Mr. Martin posted a demo on how to do
this exercise on you tube.
Here is my work after following the demo of the lecturer.
Fig 4.1
Recoloring
After I did the demo exercise, I went ahead and downloaded a picture of
Barack Obama , I did the same steps in order to color this portrait.
Fig 4.2

I zoomed in so I can have a clean and neat artwork, also I played with the
brush settings to make it softer.

Week 5
Exercise 5
Displacement map
Mr. Martin posted a demo on you tube, In that demo he explained the
displacement map exercise well. So after watching it, I downloaded the
pictures and started to work on it following the instructions given in the
demo.

Hybrid animal
In this exercise we were asked to use the same methods for
displacement map, and pick an animal and change its skin or fur.
It was really hard matching the new skin to the animal skin. I tried
several animals and textures.
Finally, I decided to go with the horse and the giraffe skin.
here is my final work
Fig 5.4
Horse | Giraffe (final work)
I also tried a leopard texture on another horse picture
this figure 5.4 was approved by Mr. Martin, so I went ahead and submitted it.

during this period (week 6 - week 10) our lecturer did live demos on how to make a human robot, in those practical sessions I had the chance to ask questions and to practice with the lecturer at the same time, here are some of my practices
Fig 6.1
Bora
In this exercise we learned how to mask a part of the body using pen-tool in Photoshop, also we learned how to select an object or a part of an object properly using the selection tools,
- Quick selection tool
- Object selection tool
- magic wand tool
this practical exercise helped me to gain time working on my final project 2b.
week 7 Practical session
In today's practical live session we were introduced to the basics on how to edit the skin and how to make holes and openings in the skin. It was a long process, but at the end of the session I was able to apply the knowledge I gained on my project.
week 8 to week 10
We did some photo editing exercises in these two weeks, the main goal was to edit raw pictures on Photoshop.
we used raw camera filter for this matter, the demos were clear and I had the same result as the lecturer.
Fig 8.1
Fig 8.2
I used the camera raw filter to change the brightness and the colors. also i edited the sharpness of the pictures and the exposure because the images were taken in dark places.
Fig 8.3
this is an animation done in Photoshop after watching the live tutorial with Mr. Martin.
I learned how to mask the person and separate it from the background. then i learned how to create a video timeline in Photoshop where I could do simple animations, I simply changed the size of the person, created a key frame at the beginning pf the clip and another key frame at the end of that clip.
then I rendered the video and chose the frame rate, then exported it.
this exercise helped me with animating other projects for other modules.
Fig 8.4
In today's tutorial we learned how to create a GIF in Photoshop.
the process is similar to the video animation, but in this case I used frame timeline, then applied puppet warp which allowed me to manipulate the body of that girl, I did the same thing over and over, then at the end I exported it as a web GIF.
